Navigating the Complex Road: The Senior High School Dilemma
by Kate Ashley DimaandalWhen we were children, everything seemed so easy for us since we still lacked knowledge of how the real world really works. We think that our world only revolves around playing with friends until the sun sets and making a decision on what candy to buy next. As time went by, our juvenile life started to face different experiences that made us question what the real world is. Is it the juvenile life we had experienced before or is it at this moment that we need to seriously decide for our future and not just buy candies? There are several reasons why hindrances take place in choosing the path we want to take as Senior High School that beholds our future. Most us SHS students are doubting if we will pursue the path that we want to take since some of us have been through a financial crisis, which is the main reason why some of us chose a less expensive course even if we are not really into it. Also, some of us are still unsure of what path to choose, but since we were pressured by the people who are certain of their path, this pressure plays a role in the urgency of knowing what to do now and after. On the other hand, unclear career goals can also be part of the reasons due to a lack of in-depth intrapersonal communication; assessing oneself is crucial since it will determine the strengths and weaknesses you acquire as a student. Some of us students really face these kinds of dilemmas when the future is waiting for us. The fact that some of us are experiencing economic problems, pressure, and unsure of what to do lead to these challenges that will occur in the future. However, these challenges will inevitably happen because the future is full of mysteries. That is why strategizing while having support is a must when facing this dilemma.

Unity in Service
by Kristen Raya BingcangOn June 2, 2019, our outreach program took us to O’Donell Capas, Tarlac, where we had the privilege of spending the day with a community of Aetas, an indigenous group known for their strong connection to the land and rich cultural heritage. This was a day that would leave a mark on all of us who were part of the initiative. We arrived early in the morning, greeted by the breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains and the warmth of the community’s welcome. The Aetas, who have lived in this remote area for generations, greeted us with a combination of curiosity and hospitality, eager to learn about the activities we had planned for the day. It was clear that the outreach was not only a chance for them to receive support, but also an opportunity to build meaningful connections and share their experiences. The first part of our visit focused on establishing rapport and understanding their needs. We spent time engaging with the local residents, particularly the elders and community leaders, who spoke about the challenges they faced, such as limited access to healthcare, education, and essential resources. These conversations were eye-opening, giving us a clearer picture of the hardships they endure, but also revealing the resilience and strength that define this remarkable community. As the day progressed, we transitioned into the core of our outreach: distributing relief goods. These included food packages, basic hygiene items, and clothes, all of which were received with immense gratitude. It was heartwarming to witness their appreciation, as some members of the community, especially the elderly and children, expressed how much this support would ease their daily struggles. For many, it was a rare opportunity to receive such assistance, and their smiles were a testament to how impactful even small acts of kindness can beIn the afternoon, we conducted a seminar on basic first aid. Many of the Aetas lived in areas that were difficult to access in emergencies, and healthcare services were often far away. The goal of the seminar was to equip them with the knowledge and skills needed to handle common injuries or health crises before professional help could arrive. We taught them how to properly treat wounds, perform CPR, and handle minor medical emergencies. The session was interactive, with members of the community eager to learn and practice the techniques we demonstrated. It was a humbling experience, as the Aetas, despite their limited resources, showed an eagerness to learn for the betterment of their families. As the day drew to a close, we gathered with the community for a moment of reflection. Despite the physical distance that separated us, we felt a deep sense of connection and mutual respect. The Aetas had shown us their strength, wisdom, and sense of community, and in turn, we had shared something valuable with them, practical knowledge and resources that would make their lives a little easier. When we left later that day, it wasn’t just with the satisfaction of having given. We carried with us a newfound appreciation for the Aetas’ resilience and their way of life, as well as the realization that sometimes the most important gifts we can offer are not material, but the sharing of knowledge and the forging of lasting bonds. The outreach program in O'Donnell Capas, Tarlac, was a reminder that even in the most remote and underserved communities, there is potential for meaningful change when people come together to offer support, learn from each other, and create a sense of unity.

Small Gestures
by Tiffany Ambher SibalNot everything has to be extravagant. Sometimes, those who appreciate the little things are even more happier than those who can buy all the gold and diamonds in the world, yet it still feels like it’s not enough for them. It could even be as simple as a small gesture like remembering one’s favorite colour or what they like doing. I, myself, am very fond of the little things in life, however, I’ve never noticed how it affects others until now.It was around 2pm in this small cafe named “Freshen Up”, in the town of Bamban, Tarlac. Me and my friends were casually talking as we’ve just finished our food. One of my friends had mentioned to our other friend that she and her family were going to the cemetery the day after as it was her grandfather’s 40 days death anniversary in which it is believed that the soul of those who passed, after 40 days, is when they prepare to ascend into the afterlife. Considering that she had already invited us days before, she quickly notified our other friend as she was not there during the time she stated it. With that, I had casually alluded to my friend that during last year’s night mass, I mentioned her grandfather during my prayer as a sign of respect. As soon as I had said that, I noticed a different emotion dwelling on her face. It wasn’t the sort in which she seemed annoyed or weirded out, it felt like she was in shock and in awe. For the first time I saw that expression on her face, it honestly made me happy. Happy, that in some way, I was able to make her feel comforted, that she is heard. With that, I came to the realization that happiness or the feeling of comfort can never be measured through materialistic things, rather they come from the little things in life that you never truly expect nor notice in the beginning, yet it builds up like a climax of a book and the realization hits you like a rock.
